Rescue teams in Ahmedabad are intensifying their efforts to recover the black box from the ill-fated Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (Flight AI 171), which crashed during takeoff on June 12, tragically killing 241 people aboard and several on the ground . The flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder are vital to reconstructing the aircraft’s final moments and identifying whether mechanical failure, bird strike, or pilot error triggered the disaster.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Kanan Desai confirmed that specialized tools - such as metal cutters - and fire brigade support have been deployed to sift through the wreckage effectively . Investigators are working alongside the AAIB, US NTSB, UK authorities, and Boeing to ensure a comprehensive probe.
Although one black box has reportedly been retrieved, officials emphasized that locating both the flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR) is critical. Gujarat ATS has also recovered a DVR, which may aid the investigation.
The path to clarity lies in these devices. Their recovery could be the turning point in determining how and why one of India’s deadliest aviation tragedies to date occurred.
