India and Pakistan, placed together in Group A of the Asia Cup 2025 (UAE, Sept 9–28), will face off on September 14, with potential rematches in the Super Four and final - if both teams qualify.
Public backlash has been intense: social media campaigns demanding a boycott, calls from BJP and Lok Sabha MPs urging government intervention, and opinions from former cricketers like Azharuddin and Ganguly opposing the match amid heightened tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.
Despite this, top BCCI and ACC sources confirm the match will not be cancelled. The decision follows the ACC meeting where India - official host for the Asia Cup - gave its approval. Since it's a multilateral tournament under ACC governance, neither BCCI nor Indian government has the authority to withdraw at this stage.
Former commentator Danish Kaneria criticized perceived double standards, contrasting India’s WCL withdrawal with acceptance of this fixture. While debate continues, the calendar stays firm unless extraordinary intervention occurs.
