During the ongoing Operation Sindoor debate in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister Amit Shah on July 29 provided critical details about Operation Mahadev, the counter-terror mission targeting the perpetrators of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Shah confirmed that in a joint operation by the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police, three terrorists - Suleiman (also known as Hashim Moosa), Afghan (Jibran), and Yasir - were neutralized in the forested Harwan–Dachigam area near Srinagar.
Shah clarified that all three individuals were classified as A‑grade terrorists associated with Lashkar‑e‑Taiba, and confirmed that Suleiman was directly involved in the Pahalgam attack, along with Afghan and Jibran—who were present at the attack scene. According to the Home Minister, the operation was initiated on May 22, based on intelligence tied to suspicious satellite phone signals monitored since shortly after the attack.
The striking success of Operation Mahadev has been welcomed by victims’ families, with many expressing relief and gratitude to the armed forces for swiftly executing justice. Shah’s briefing reinforced the government’s resolve in combating terrorism and underscored coordinated efforts across security agencies to safeguard national security.
