India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is expected to sit out the crucial fifth Test against England at The Oval, adhering to a workload management plan that limits him to three matches during the series. Despite being India's joint-leading wicket-taker with 14 scalps in the series including two five-wicket hauls his participation in the final Test remains uncertain following a modest outing in the fourth Test at Manchester.
In Bumrah’s absence, Akash Deep is likely to be handed the Test cap, having impressed in earlier matches. The Bengal pacer claimed 10 wickets in Edgbaston in six in the second innings playing a pivotal role in India’s commanding 336‑run victory. His likely inclusion underlines the team's confidence in his ability to deliver under pressure.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed that no final call has been made yet on Bumrah’s selection, and his availability will depend on ongoing fitness assessments and workload review. Akash Deep’s return to the playing XI appears imminent, while the balance of seamers and spin options remains under consideration ahead of the series decider.
