Ten years after its original release, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is returning to theatres on August 6, 2025, according to director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. The film, which took home six Filmfare Awards including Best Film and Best Actor, tells the inspiring story of Indian icon Milkha Singh played by Farhan Akhtar based on Singh’s autobiography The Race of My Life.

Produced with remarkable dedication Milkha sold the rights for just Re 1, with actors Farhan and Sonam Kapoor agreeing to minimal fees the film became one of Bollywood’s biggest hits in 2013, grossing ₹164 crore worldwide. Mehra describes it not just as a sports drama, but as “a film about the human spirit” .

The re-release, which symbolises a tribute to Milkha Singh, will be accompanied by special screenings including one for the hearing-impaired in Indian Sign Language. It offers a renewed opportunity for audiences old and new to experience this powerful inspiration tale on the big screen once more.
