AI scam just hit top US officials, targeting the Secretary of state!

An imposter used artificial intelligence to pose as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, sending convincing voice and text messages to foreign ministers, a U.S. senator, and a state governor. The perpetrator created a Signal account under "[email protected]" in mid-June, delivering AI-generated voicemails and messages via SMS and Signal.

According to a classified State Department cable, the campaign aimed to extract sensitive information or gain unauthorized account access. The department launched an internal investigation and issued global warnings to embassies and consulates.

This incident follows similar AI-powered attacks, including one targeting Trump Chief of Staff Susie Wiles in May. The FBI warns of increasing "smishing" and "vishing" attacks using AI-generated content, as deepfake technology becomes harder to detect and counter.
