In a major policy move, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved 20% reservation for former Agniveers in direct police recruitment. This decision, taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Yogi Adityanath, aims to support Agniveers after their four-year service under the Agnipath scheme.
The quota will apply to civil police constables, PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary), mounted police, and firemen posts. The move is intended to offer structured employment to trained youth exiting the armed forces, ensuring their skills benefit state services.
Agniveers are selected between ages 17.5 to 23 and serve for four years—six months of training and 3.5 years of active duty. Post-tenure, only 25% are retained in the military, while others receive a financial exit package (₹11–12 lakh), but no pension.
This reservation not only acknowledges their contribution to national defense but also opens civilian career opportunities, boosting morale among youth considering military service.
