Hariyali Teej, celebrated during the lush monsoon season, is a festival of love, hope, and devotion, especially among North Indian women. This sacred day marks the divine reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, making it symbolic of marital bliss and new beginnings.
But why is green the color of the day? Green symbolizes nature, fertility, growth, and fresh starts. The rainy season brings greenery, and wearing green during Teej honors this connection with nature. For married women, green bangles and sarees represent their prayers for their husband’s long life and happiness. For unmarried girls, it’s a sign of hope for a loving partner.
Green also has astrological significance-it’s linked to peace, unity, and positive energy. Spiritually, it reflects the calm strength and unwavering devotion of Goddess Parvati.
Women observe a nirjala vrat (fast without water), dress in traditional green attire, adorn themselves with mehendi and shringar, and receive gifts called sidhara from their families.
Hariyali Teej is not just a festival-it's a celebration of love, devotion, and the beauty of new beginnings wrapped in green.
