In India’s booming creator economy, more than 80 million people are trying to turn content into cash-but only 0.2% succeed. While social media promises fame, financial freedom is harder to find.
Top influencers get the biggest brand deals, while smaller creators struggle. Viral videos don’t guarantee income. Many creators like Preksha and Tapas of Arogyaroots rely on selling services like consultations and yoga classes to earn.
Similarly, YouTuber Ravi built a plant business through his channel but faced setbacks like hacking. Instagram educator Samayra uses brand deals and course sales to earn, but says income is still unpredictable and mentally taxing.
Most platforms don’t offer stable revenue. Creators often juggle multiple income streams-ads, sales, collaborations-but it’s rarely secure. Emotional pressure, algorithm dependency, and unfair monetization practices make it even harder.
Experts say change is needed: better revenue-sharing, tools for smaller creators, and focus on value over vanity.
The creator dream is real-but to make it sustainable, India must build a fairer ecosystem for all.
