A sudden roof collapse at a small manufacturing unit in Garhi New Usmanpur, northeast Delhi, left two workers injured on Friday evening. The factory, which assembles iron stands, suffered the incident at around 6 pm, according to police reports. Both injured employees - identified as Tajim and Akram, aged 25 - were immediately hospitalised and are reportedly in stable condition.
Local authorities state that the roof gave way unexpectedly, trapping the two inside. Emergency teams responded promptly to shift the injured for medical care. A case has been registered under sections 290 (negligent conduct), 125A (endangering human life), and 3(5) (joint liability) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and investigations are underway to determine if safety norms were breached.
Neighbourhood residents report that the area is densely packed and the structure appeared hastily maintained. Officials have not yet commented on whether the factory was compliant with building codes. As of now, no fatalities have been reported. Authorities continue to probe the incident.
