Pradakshina, the act of walking in a circular, clockwise path around temples or sacred objects, is a deeply spiritual ritual found in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. The term ‘Pradakshina’ literally means “keeping to the right side,” symbolizing reverence by placing the deity or divine object on one's right - considered the auspicious side.
But this isn’t just a physical act. It represents alignment with the cosmic flow. Just like planets revolve around the sun in a clockwise path, devotees mirror this universal rhythm while performing Pradakshina. This movement is believed to attract harmony, peace, and spiritual energy.
The act also brings mental stillness. Walking in a meditative circle induces mindfulness, calms the mind, and deepens one’s spiritual connection. Symbolically, it reflects the eternal cycle of life - birth, death, and rebirth - reminding us of our spiritual journey.
More than ritual, it’s a union - with the divine, the universe, and the community. It’s a humble yet powerful form of devotion that connects body, mind, and soul.
