Donald Trump has claimed credit on Truth Social for ending the current Israel–Iran conflict, comparing it to the India–Pakistan truce he says he helped broker in May. “Just like I got India and Pakistan to make a deal, I can get Israel and Iran to make a deal,” Trump declared, adding that “peace will be soon” without outlining a specific plan.
The active exchange of missiles and airstrikes between Israel and Iran—which has now persisted for three days, has triggered global calls for de-escalation. Trump emphasized that any Iranian aggression towards U.S. interests would provoke a “powerful military response,” while also expressing hope that U.S.–led diplomacy might soon bring both nations to the negotiating table.
Previously, Trump asserted he played a central role in facilitating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in early May, crediting “trade leverage” and confident diplomacy—claims that have been disputed by officials from both countries.
Political reactions have been mixed: some Republicans praised his potential as a dealmaker, while critics pointed to past failures in mediating international conflicts and demanded concrete solutions .
