Subscription cancellation could soon become harder for Netflix, Prime Video users!

A recent ruling by a U.S. federal appeals court has blocked the Federal Trade Commission’s “click-to-cancel” rule, which would have made it mandatory for streaming platforms to simplify subscription cancellation. The decision underscores that the FTC did not conduct a required economic impact study, leading to the rule being invalidated before its July 14 implementation.

Currently, most platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and HBO Max allow users to cancel within a few clicks. However, without this regulation, companies may start reinstating more complex processes such as hidden cancellation options, additional confirmation steps, or even customer service calls.

While the ruling applies only in the U.S., its ripple effect could influence global streaming policies. This means users in India and other markets might also face harder cancellation experiences if providers standardize procedures worldwide. As the streaming landscape evolves, consumers are advised to review subscription terms carefully and stay alert to any changes in cancellation procedures.
