On July 29, 2025, a Singapore court sentenced Charanjeet Singh, a 20-year-old Indian national, to 13 weeks in prison after he pleaded guilty to one count of cheating and two charges of using forged documents, relating to a job fraud case. Three additional charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.
Prosecutors presented evidence showing Singh had submitted fake Ministry of Manpower (MOM) letters to defraud a domestic helper. The illegal documents falsely promised job opportunities and facilitated financial gain at the expense of the victim.
During sentencing, the court highlighted the severity of using counterfeit official documents and noted the breach of trust involved. The additional charges were considered to aggravate the wrongdoing, although they did not result in further convictions.
This incident underscores ongoing concerns about job fraud and fake documentation in Singapore, where authorities continue to crack down on identity-based deception and exploitation of vulnerable job aspirants.
