India might enjoy lower trade tariffs from the United States compared to other Asia-Pacific countries, according to Moody’s Ratings. This potential tariff advantage comes as India is increasingly viewed as a strategic and economic partner by the US, especially amid global shifts in supply chains and trade policies.
The report highlights that while many APAC countries could see rising tariffs under the US’s changing trade approach, India might be spared or favored, which could benefit its export sector and strengthen bilateral ties.
This aligns with the US's growing focus on “friendshoring” prioritizing trade with politically aligned countries. If this trend continues, India could gain significant ground as a manufacturing and supply chain hub.
