Gukesh opened up on Carlsen's table slam reaction & dropped his verdict on it

D Gukesh made history at Norway Chess 2025, securing his first classical win against Magnus Carlsen in a thrilling Round 6 clash. The match, a rollercoaster of tension, saw Carlsen, frustrated by defeat, slam the table, a reaction that went viral, spawning memes like one featuring a startled cat. Speaking to ChessBase India, Gukesh laughed, “The memes are actually funny. I was laughing for like 10 minutes.” Carlsen, shellshocked, admitted, “I don’t find it exciting... Gukesh fights really well,” reflecting on his collapse despite a strong tournament.

Despite the loss, Carlsen clinched his seventh Norway Chess title with 16 points, edging out Fabiano Caruana (15.5) and Gukesh (14.5), who finished third. Arjun Erigaisi took fifth with 13 points. When asked about his successor, Carlsen dismissed the field, stating, “There is no one at the moment,” underscoring his enduring dominance.
