In a major step to maintain campus cleanliness and discipline, Delhi University has issued strict anti-defacement guidelines ahead of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections. Candidates running for student union positions will now have to submit an undertaking and a hefty ₹1 lakh bond to ensure they do not deface public or private property during their campaigns.
This move comes as the university administration attempts to curb the widespread poster-sticking, wall graffiti, and banner displays that often clutter college buildings, metro stations, and surrounding areas during election season. The ₹1 lakh bond will be forfeited if a candidate is found violating the guidelines.
Candidates have also been instructed to refrain from using plastic materials or any campaign methods that damage public spaces. The university will closely monitor campaign activities through dedicated surveillance teams.
This strict policy aims to set a cleaner and more responsible tone for student politics. It reflects DU’s broader push to encourage sustainable, issue-based campaigning. Students and staff have largely welcomed the decision, hoping it leads to more environmentally conscious and respectful election practices in one of India’s most high-profile student elections.
