The much-anticipated romantic drama Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, has finally received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but not without undergoing substantial changes. The film has been granted a U/A certificate after the CBFC mandated 16 significant edits to ensure it aligns with certification guidelines.
The cuts primarily address politically and socially sensitive content. According to reports, several scenes and dialogues that touched upon caste-based discrimination, religious overtones, and political issues were either removed or modified. The CBFC was particularly cautious about the portrayal of caste dynamics, which are central to the film’s plot. To avoid misinterpretation or controversy, the board directed the makers to revise content that could potentially be seen as inflammatory or offensive.
In addition to the cuts, the CBFC also required the inclusion of a detailed disclaimer clarifying that the film is a work of fiction and does not intend to hurt sentiments or reflect real-life individuals or communities.
Dhadak 2 is the official spiritual successor to the 2018 film Dhadak, which starred Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor and was a remake of the Marathi hit Sairat. While the new film does not continue the same storyline, it explores similar themes of love and societal barriers, particularly those related to caste and class divides in India.
The film was originally scheduled for release in November 2024 but was postponed due to certification delays. A new release date is expected to be announced soon.
