Managing diabetes goes beyond diet and medication—regular walking plays a vital role in keeping blood sugar levels under control.
Health experts recommend that diabetic patients engage in a brisk walk for 30 to 45 minutes daily, at least five days a week. This can be done in one go or split into three 10–15 minute sessions throughout the day.
Walking after meals, especially after dinner, is particularly effective. A light walk 30 minutes after eating helps reduce sudden blood sugar spikes. However, avoid walking immediately after meals. Morning walks on an empty stomach can also help, but if you’re on insulin or have low sugar levels, a small snack is advised before starting.
Maintain a brisk pace—faster than a casual stroll, but not jogging. Keep your back straight, arms swinging naturally, and wear comfortable shoes to avoid foot strain.
Regular, mindful walking significantly improves insulin sensitivity and promotes overall cardiovascular health in diabetics.
