The Congress party in Jammu & Kashmir has reaffirmed its decision to not join the regional cabinet until full statehood is restored, citing broken promises and ongoing federal interference. JKPCC chief Tariq Hameed Karra said the party remains “unhappy” with the current Union Territory setup, describing the administration as under “dual control” by New Delhi and local leadership.
Over eight months after Omar Abdullah became Chief Minister leading the NC-Congress coalition, Congress leaders say accepting ministerial posts now would validate a system lacking real power or democratic authority. They argue their stand brings pressure on the central government to honour pledges to restore Jammu & Kashmir’s status as a full state.
Meanwhile, CM Omar Abdullah praised the coalition alliance but noted that Congress did not raise this issue at a recent INDIA bloc meeting, suggesting communication gaps within the alliance.
As the alliance continues to govern from within, Congress holds firm on its demand: no cabinet posts until J&K returns to full statehood, and real power is given back to its elected leaders.
