The Congress party has publicly distanced itself from senior leader Shashi Tharoor after he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomatic initiatives linked to "Operation Sindoor." At a high-command meeting, party officials clarified that Tharoor’s remarks were “personal views,” not reflective of the party’s stance.

Tharoor, serving as chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, had lauded Modi as a “prime asset for India on the global stage” following the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. His comments jarred with Congress’s official line, prompting general secretary Jairam Ramesh to publicly reassert the party’s collective position .

Tharoor has acknowledged having “differences of opinion” with the Congress leadership and committed to addressing them internally at an appropriate time.
