Excessive sugar intake can silently accelerate skin aging, leading to wrinkles, dullness, and sagging. Dr. Astha Jani, a Maxillofacial and Cosmetic Surgeon, explains that high sugar consumption triggers glycation—a process where sugar molecules bind to collagen and elastin proteins, compromising their strength and elasticity. This results in stiffer, less resilient skin prone to fine lines and sagging .

Moreover, a sugar-rich diet promotes inflammation, exacerbating skin issues like redness, breakouts, and uneven tone. It also increases the skin's sensitivity to UV damage, leading to pigmentation and a loss of natural glow.

To mitigate these effects, Dr. Jani recommends:

  • Consuming antioxidant-rich foods such as berries, nuts, and leafy greens

  • Staying well-hydrated

  • Using sunscreen regularly

  • Replacing refined sugars with complex carbohydrates

These lifestyle adjustments can help preserve skin health and slow down premature aging.
