Alert: Active COVID cases spike to nearly 4,000 nationwide—Delhi worst hit

As of June 2, 2025, India reported a total of 3,961 active COVID-19 cases, marking a significant increase from the previous day's count. The national capital, Delhi, accounted for 483 of these active cases, with 47 new infections recorded. Additionally, four new COVID-19 related deaths were reported across the country, including one in Delhi. The deceased in Delhi was a 22-year-old woman with a history of pulmonary Koch's disease and bilateral lower respiratory tract infection.

In response to the ongoing situation, the Delhi High Court has directed the central government to submit a detailed status report on its policies regarding COVID-19 sample collection, collection centers, and transportation. This directive follows a contempt plea by Dr. Rohit Jain, who alleged that authorities failed to comply with a previous court order from January 2023, which mandated the formulation of guidelines on these issues.

Health experts emphasize that while the rise in cases is concerning, most reported infections remain mild. They advise continued vigilance, adherence to preventive measures, and preparedness to manage the situation effectively.
