98 killed in Himachal Pradesh as monsoon wreaks havoc!

Between June 20 and July 13, 2025, relentless monsoon rains battered Himachal Pradesh, resulting in tragic loss and widespread destruction. The State Disaster Management Authority reports that a total of 98 people have died 57 in rain-related incidents such as cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, and electrocutions, and 41 in road accidents exacerbated by poor driving conditions and washed-out roads.

Mandi district has been hit hardest, with 21 rain-related deaths and 27 individuals still missing. Across the state, 208 roads including the NH‑21 route between Mandi and Kullu remain blocked, while 139 power transformers are offline and 745 water supply schemes have been disrupted. Property and agricultural losses are estimated at ₹770 crore.

On-ground rescue and relief operations are in full swing, featuring efforts by the SDRF, NDRF, ITBP, and local authorities. However, ongoing rainfall continues to hamper access to remote areas. Officials are urging residents to avoid travel in vulnerable zones and remain vigilant for further monsoon impacts.
