A 103‑year‑old runner has shared his inspiring health journey after being diagnosed with colon cancer at age 69 and given just three months to live. Opting out of conventional treatment, he embraced a strict whole-food, plant-based (macrobiotic) diet along with rigorous physical training. Within two years, his tumour shrank—and doctors later found no metastasis during surgery in 1994.
Now over a century old, the centenarian continues to defy age and illness. He holds multiple world records—including fastest marathon times for 88-, 90- and 91-year-olds—and remains athletically active with regular runs (5–10 miles, three times weekly), canoe paddling, pull-ups and push-ups .
His daily plant-based meals include oatmeal with berries, legumes, whole grains and steamed vegetables—eschewing meat, dairy, sugar, and processed foods. He also avoids stress, focusing on a minimalistic, nature-connected lifestyle . He credits this holistic approach not just for curing cancer, but also alleviating arthritis and maintaining strength into his 100s.
