Women often need more sleep than men - and not just because they juggle multiple responsibilities. Studies show that hormonal fluctuations, mental health challenges, and higher rates of sleep disorders contribute to women’s increased sleep needs.
From menstruation and pregnancy to menopause, hormonal changes can severely disrupt sleep quality. Add to that the fact that women are twice as likely to suffer from anxiety and depression, both of which are closely tied to insomnia.
Sleep disorders like restless leg syndrome and obstructive sleep apnea also affect women more - especially after menopause. This leads to poorer sleep, leaving women more tired even after spending longer in bed.
Experts recommend creating a consistent sleep routine, avoiding caffeine and alcohol before bed, and addressing mental health concerns to improve sleep quality. If fatigue persists, consulting a sleep specialist is essential. Because for women, sleep isn’t just rest - it’s recovery.
