VP Dhankhar's resignation was politically engineered, say sources!

On July 21, 2025, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar submitted his resignation letter citing health concerns, effective immediately under Article 67(a) of the Constitution. However, NDTV reports revealed that Dhankhar’s resignation was politically forced, triggered by his decision to accept an Opposition impeachment notice against Justice Yashwant Varma—counter to the Centre’s strategy.

According to NDTV’s timeline, by 4:50 PM, NDA MPs had gathered signatures for Dhankhar’s removal motion. A sealed envelope was delivered to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat just 10 minutes before the 5 PM cutoff, ensuring that the process concluded that same day without postponement. Sources say Dhankhar had no room to delay or contest, his tenure abruptly terminated amid political pressure and internal dissent.

Parliamentary processes were tightly managed: NAD MPs bypassed the second Business Advisory Committee meeting and swiftly executed the removal plan. Dhankhar’s resignation followed just hours later, leaving no window for procedural counteraction.
