The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has sharply criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his focus on "sindoor politics," accusing him of hypocrisy in his anti-corruption stance. TMC MP Sagarika Ghose labeled the BJP as the "world's largest washing machine," suggesting that it absolves tainted politicians, pointing to the presence of Suvendu Adhikari—a former TMC leader facing allegations—in the BJP's ranks. The party demanded Shah's resignation over alleged security lapses leading to the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in 26 deaths. TMC leaders also accused Shah of politicizing religious sentiments and launching a divisive campaign in poll-bound West Bengal.
They highlighted the state's vibrant Hindu cultural practices and questioned the BJP's stance on corruption, citing Adhikari's alleged escape from Enforcement Directorate scrutiny. State Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya criticized Shah for withholding MGNREGA funds and misrepresenting GST contributions, asserting Bengal's higher GST revenue growth compared to the Centre. The TMC accused the BJP of weakening national unity by promoting divisiveness and demanded greater accountability and transparency from the Home Minister.
