Pakistan and Azerbaijan have signed a $2 billion investment agreement covering diverse sectors of Pakistan's economy. The deal was inked on Friday following bilateral talks between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ilham Aliyev during the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) summit in Azerbaijan.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Azerbaijan's Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov signed the document in Khankendi, witnessed by both leaders. A detailed agreement will be finalized during President Aliyev's planned visit to Pakistan later this year.
The agreement strengthens growing ties between the nations, which already enjoy robust defense cooperation. Azerbaijan has supported Pakistan in recent conflicts with India, and both countries now aim to cement their relationship through enhanced economic cooperation.
