Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was notably absent from the list of party-nominated speakers for the upcoming parliamentary debate on Operation Sindoor. According to Congress insiders, Tharoor declined participation. Reporters outside Parliament asked him if he would speak, but he evaded the question, offering no clear answer.
Tharoor had earlier led one of the most prominent delegations to the US under the government’s Operation Sindoor initiative - despite not being on the four-member list submitted by Congress. Sources confirm he accepted the government invite and later informed the party, saying he “sees no politics in it” and would serve the nation as requested.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh had clarified that party nominees included Anand Sharma, Gaurav Gogoi, Syed Naseer Hussain, and Raja Brar - none of whom replaced Tharoor in leading the delegation.
As Parliament prepares for a multi-day debate on Op Sindoor, sources indicate Tharoor neither requested to speak nor was approached by the Congress to take the floor.
