A female law student from Kolkata has recounted the fear and intimidation she experienced on her college campus due to the alleged influence of Monojit Mishra, a former student and Trinamool Congress (TMC) student leader, now the prime accused in her gang rape case. The survivor, in her statement, described how Mishra held considerable sway over the South Calcutta Law College campus, making him untouchable in the eyes of students and faculty alike. "Nobody dared to touch him," she revealed, adding that Mishra often roamed the campus freely despite not being an active student.
The alleged gang rape occurred on June 25 inside the campus guard room. Mishra, along with two current students and a security guard, has been arrested in connection with the case. The survivor has accused Mishra of blackmailing and threatening her, coercing her into silence. She also claimed that the atmosphere on campus was rife with fear, with many students avoiding confrontation with Mishra due to his political connections.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage in Kolkata, raising questions about the political interference in educational institutions and the safety of students. Police investigations are ongoing, with CCTV footage and witness testimonies being examined.
