India Just Dropped a Game-Changer for Tesla and Other EV Giants!

India has officially opened its doors to global electric vehicle manufacturers with the launch of the SPMEPCI (Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India) online portal. Minister HD Kumaraswamy announced the milestone on social media, emphasizing the initiative's role in transforming India into a global EV manufacturing hub.

The portal, accessible at spmepci.heavyindustries.gov.in, will accept applications from June 24 through October 21, 2025. The scheme offers compelling incentives: duty cuts of up to 15% on 8,000 imported electric vehicles annually (priced above Rs 30 lakh), provided manufacturers invest at least Rs 4,150 crore in local production facilities within three years.

"This scheme not only supports our national commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2070, but also reinforces our resolve to build a sustainable, innovation-driven economy," stated Kumaraswamy. The initiative directly strengthens India's 'Make in India' and 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' missions while positioning the country as a trusted destination for next-generation automotive manufacturing.
