On June 3, 2025, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan addressed Pakistan's enduring strategy of "bleeding India by a thousand cuts," a doctrine rooted in former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's 1965 proclamation of a thousand-year war against India.
General Chauhan highlighted that this approach, perpetuated through state-sponsored terrorism, necessitated a decisive response from India.
In retaliation to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, aiming to dismantle terror infrastructures and deter future aggressions. General Chauhan emphasized that India's actions are not just reactive but are part of a broader strategy to prevent being held hostage by terrorism and nuclear threats.
He also pointed out inflammatory remarks made by Pakistan's Army Chief, General Asim Munir, prior to the Pahalgam attack, suggesting a correlation between such rhetoric and subsequent violent acts. General Chauhan reaffirmed that while professional militaries may face setbacks, the focus remains on outcomes and resilience.
India's firm stance signals a shift in its counter-terrorism policy, underscoring a commitment to proactive measures and redefining engagement rules with adversaries.
