In a joint operation on Friday (July 11), law enforcement officials seized a consignment of ganja-laced chocolates from a passenger aboard the Coromandel Express, leading to the arrest of one individual involved in the smuggling.

The operation was carried out during a routine check by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and local law enforcement after receiving intelligence inputs. During the inspection, the suspect was found carrying a suspiciously large quantity of confectionery, which, upon closer inspection, was discovered to be infused with cannabis (ganja).

Authorities confirmed that the chocolates were likely intended for distribution in urban areas, potentially targeting younger consumers. The accused is currently in police custody and is being questioned to uncover the broader network behind the smuggling.

This unusual method of drug trafficking - disguising narcotics in edible products - is being seen as a new trend in the drug trade, prompting police to tighten surveillance and security on long-distance trains.
