When most people saw the bindi as a simple cultural symbol, Meghna Khanna from Bengaluru saw untapped potential. In 2022, she founded The Bindi Project, a brand that gives India’s traditional bindi a funky, fashion-forward twist. What started with just ₹5 lakh of savings soon transformed into a ₹20 lakh business, catching the eyes of celebrities like Kajol, Kareena Kapoor, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Sonam Kapoor.
Meghna’s vision was clear - to make the bindi expressive, reusable, and chic. Her designs combine heritage and trend, using leftover jewellery materials and sustainable practices. Each piece is handcrafted by local artisans and single mothers, turning it into a symbol of empowerment as much as style.
With an average order value of ₹1,500 and a 30% profit margin, The Bindi Project proves how creativity and culture can build a powerful brand. Meghna now plans to expand online and train more rural women artisans - transforming the humble bindi into a global fashion icon made proudly in India.
