Winter skincare mistakes you’re unknowingly making…!

Winter often brings dry, itchy and flaky skin, and most of the damage comes from small daily habits we don’t even notice. Dermatologist Dr Garekar recently shared simple yet effective winter skincare tips that can protect your skin and keep it glowing.

One of the most common mistakes is taking long, hot showers. While they feel relaxing, hot water strips the skin of essential lipids, ceramides, and natural moisturising factors that keep it hydrated. Using lukewarm water and moisturising within three minutes of bathing helps lock in moisture.

She also warns against keeping heaters on for long hours, as they dry the air and make the skin even drier. Using a humidifier or placing a bowl of water near the heater can restore humidity.

Staying hydrated is equally important - drinking 2–2.5 litres of water daily and doing light workouts improves skin health. For scalp care, use lukewarm water and finish with a cold-water rinse to seal moisture. With small tweaks, your skin can stay nourished and glowing all winter.
