Fifth test twist: India's star Wicketkeeper Ruled out!

India wicketkeeper‑batter Rishabh Pant has been officially ruled out of the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval, starting July 31, 2025, after scans confirmed a fracture in his right foot sustained while attempting a reverse sweep off England’s Chris Woakes on Day 1 in Manchester. Pant retired hurt on 37, but famously returned on Day 2 to continue his innings, scoring a gritty fifty despite visible pain.

With India trailing 2‑1 in the five‑match series, Pant’s absence is a serious blow. The BCCI Selection Committee has named uncapped Tamil Nadu batter Narayan Jagadeesan as his replacement in the squad. Jagadeesan joins alongside Dhruv Jurel as backup wicketkeepers for the Oval Test.

Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir lauded Pant’s commitment - “batting with a broken foot” - and expressed admiration for his heroics in Manchester.

India now head to London hoping the reshuffled side can level the series in the crucial decider.
