U.S. President Donald Trump sparked controversy on July 22, 2025, by claiming - yet again - that he “stopped the recent war” between India and Pakistan, adding that “five… jets were shot down” during the hostilities . Speaking at a White House event, he said the two nuclear-armed nations were engaged in intense aerial combat when he intervened, allegedly threatening to derail trade deals to enforce a ceasefire .
This marks at least the 25th time Trump has claimed credit for halting the conflict and preventing a potential nuclear war, also stating similar mediation in other global hotspots . His narrative echoes that of Pakistan’s claim - that it downed five Indian jets - although India does not confirm such losses, and Pakistan neither officially acknowledges nor clarifies its version .
Indian officials firmly disclaim any U.S. mediation role, asserting the ceasefire was arranged directly through military communication channels between India and Pakistan . Meanwhile, the Indian Congress party has criticized Prime Minister Modi for not responding to Trump’s repeated statements, sarcastically calling it a “silver jubilee” of claims .
