Daily makeup could wreck your skin, unless you follow these 8 rules

Dermatologists highlight that more isn’t always better—wearing makeup every day demands smart habits to keep skin calm and healthy. Here are eight expert-backed tips:

  1. Choose gentle, non-irritating products – Opt for non-comedogenic, fragrance-free makeup tailored to your skin type.

  2. Cleanse twice daily – Remove your makeup thoroughly morning and night using micellar water, balms, or gentle face washes to prevent buildup and clogged pores.

  3. Don’t skip skincare after cleansing – After washing, always apply moisturiser and serums to repair and hydrate skin.

  4. Exfoliate with care – Use gentle exfoliants; harsh scrubbing can damage your skin’s barrier.

  5. Layer SPF daily – Even makeup sometimes contains SPF, it’s not enough on its own—use a dedicated broad-spectrum sunscreen.

  6. Clean your tools weekly – Brushes and sponges can harbor bacteria; wash them to prevent acne and infections.

  7. Use occasional makeup-free days – Allow skin a break to recover and breathe.

  8. Consult a dermatologist for product guidance – Especially if you experience irritation or have sensitive skin.

Wearing makeup daily isn’t harmful—provided you pair it with diligent cleansing, soothing skincare, clean tools, and periodic breaks.
