In a surprising political move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has defended Congress MP Shashi Tharoor after he faced criticism from his own party colleague, Udit Raj. The controversy began after Tharoor stated in Panama that India crossed the Line of Control (LoC) for the first time during the 2016 Uri surgical strike.
Congress leader Udit Raj lashed out, calling Tharoor a "BJP super spokesperson" and accused him of ignoring Congress-era military achievements in 1965, 1971, and under UPA rule.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Congress of attacking Tharoor for prioritizing national interest over loyalty to the Gandhi family, saying, “Tharoor is being targeted because he chose India over vote bank politics.”
Tharoor had been speaking as part of an official Indian delegation after the Pahalgam terror attack. The incident has exposed deep internal rifts within the Congress, with BJP capitalizing on the discord.
