A workplace dispute in Arunachal Pradesh turned deadly on July 14, 2025, when a supervisor allegedly shot a coworker at the Nike Assam India factory in Naharlagun. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Assam native Rajib Ali, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds before he could be taken to the hospital.
According to Police Superintendent N. Jomy, the dispute between Ali and his supervisor escalated rapidly around midday, resulting in the supervisor opening fire. Responding promptly to alarms, local police reached the scene within minutes and arrested the accused, who remains in custody. A licensed firearm was reportedly used, and authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the tense interaction that led to the shooting.
This incident has shocked fellow workers and local residents, raising serious concerns about workplace safety and conflict resolution practices. The police have registered a murder case and are questioning factory staff, reviewing CCTV footage, and gathering forensic evidence. Community members are urging management and local officials to introduce stronger safety protocols, including de-escalation training and stricter weapons control on factory premises.
