A tragic accident claimed the life of four‑year‑old Anvika Prajapati in Navkar City, Naigaon, Mumbai, on July 24, 2025, at around 8 pm. The child’s mother placed her on a shoe rack to wear sandals. Anvika then climbed onto the windowsill and lost her balance, falling out of a 12th‑floor window.
Neighbors rushed to assist after hearing cries. Anvika was taken to Sir D. M. Petit Hospital in Vasai West, but was declared dead on arrival due to severe head injuries.
Authorities confirmed the balcony had no protective grill, significantly increasing the risk. A case of accidental death has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police Pournima Chougule‑Shringi described the death as “tragic,” emphasizing the lapse in safety protocols in high-rise homes. Residents in the society have expressed grief and concern over the lack of basic safety infrastructure in balconies.
This tragedy underscores the urgent need for childproofing safety measures—especially in high-rise residential complexes, where a moment’s oversight can cost a young life.
