2 dead and 32 injured as tourists plunged into a raging river—bridge collapses near Pune

An old iron footbridge spanning the swollen Indrayani River near Talegaon-Dabhade, Pune, collapsed on Sunday afternoon (June 15, 2025), sending tourists into the churning waters around 4 pm. The bridge, estimated to be around 40 years old and located on the Ambi‑Talegaon route, had reportedly not been maintained for years.

Initial reports confirm two fatalities and 32 injuries, with several individuals swept downstream and still missing. Among the injured, six are critically hurt, and at least six people have already been rescued by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local emergency teams. Search operations continue under challenging conditions due to heavy rainfall in recent days that swelled the river and hampered rescue efforts.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the casualties and appealed for caution at local tourist spots, as monsoon rains persist in the region. Authorities are investigating the bridge's structural integrity and pressing for urgent maintenance at other vulnerable crossings to prevent further tragedies.
