"World Food Safety Day 2025: 'Science in Action' for Safer Plates Worldwide"

Today, June 7, 2025, marks the observance of World Food Safety Day, emphasizing the crucial role of science in ensuring the safety of our food. The theme for this year, "Food Safety: Science in Action," highlights how scientific advancements and evidence-based practices are essential in preventing foodborne diseases and promoting global health.

Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018, World Food Safety Day aims to raise awareness about the importance of food safety and encourage actions that prevent, detect, and manage foodborne risks.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) jointly lead this initiative, recognizing that food safety is a shared responsibility from farm to table.

In India, where diverse culinary practices are prevalent, ensuring food safety remains a significant challenge. With a vast informal food sector and millions relying on street food, maintaining hygiene and safety standards is imperative. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) continues to implement measures to enhance food safety awareness and practices across the country.

World Food Safety Day 2025 serves as a reminder that safe food is essential for good health, economic prosperity, and sustainable development. By embracing scientific innovations and fostering collaborative efforts, we can work towards a future where everyone has access to safe and nutritious food.
