In the age of Instagram filters and carefully crafted bios, a surprising new dating trend has emerged - reverse catfishing. Unlike traditional catfishing, where people present an exaggerated version of themselves online, reverse catfishing is about toning down your appeal on purpose.
From skipping luxury brands in bios to posting unfiltered photos and using basic introductions, Gen Z and millennials are embracing this trend as a digital detox from "Insta-perfection." Dating app QuackQuack’s founder, Ravi Mittal, calls it a "ove letter to emotional intelligence," where confidence is shown by not needing to impress.
Some see it as a test of authenticity - if someone likes you for your most minimal self, it could mean they’re genuinely interested. However, dating coach Pratik Jain warns that showing up looking significantly better than your profile might feel manipulative.
The trend raises a key question: Is it about being real or just another tactic in the dating game?
