Who is John Gwite ,the new conqueror of world’s toughest cycling race!

Manipur's John Khammuanlal Gwite has created history by completing the 'Race Around Poland' in 237 hours, becoming the first Indian to finish within 10 days and breaking the previous Indian record of 274 hours. The 37-year-old conquered the gruelling 3,600km unsupported ride with over 31,000 metres elevation gain.

Gwite faced brutal climbs and chilling night temperatures without proper winter gear, innovatively crafting polythene vests and knee warmers from local shops. His achievement at the World Ultra Cycling Championships, competing against 60 elite global riders, joins him with legends like Christoph Strasser and Marko Baloh.

Previously, Gwite completed 'Paris-Brest-Paris' in 59 hours and holds 19 Super Randonneur titles. His Poland success qualifies him for the prestigious 'Race Across America', though he faces significant logistical and financial challenges for the 3,000-mile pinnacle event.
