Too many unread messages? WhatsApp's new AI fixes it in seconds!

WhatsApp has launched a new AI feature that automatically summarises unread personal chats using Meta AI.

Currently rolling out in the US, the feature is expected to expand to other regions and languages later this year.

Aimed at helping users catch up on messages quickly, the tool generates a concise, bulleted summary of missed chats when users tap the unread messages button.

The feature uses Meta’s Private Processing Technology, ensuring that neither Meta nor WhatsApp can view messages or summaries.

It is optional and off by default, giving users full control over its usage. Advanced privacy settings also allow users to decide which chats are eligible for AI summarisation.

This update follows Meta's push for more AI integration in WhatsApp, including real-time image generation and AI assistants. Additionally, WhatsApp will now display ads in the Updates tab and earn from channel subscriptions and promotions, mirroring Instagram’s monetisation model.
