Why did Modi turn down Trump’s personal dinner invite?

During his visit to Odisha on June 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed he respectfully declined an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to travel via Washington for dinner—a suggestion made during a phone call while Modi attended the G7 Summit in Canada. Modi explained he chose to remain in Odisha to participate in the one-year anniversary celebrations of the BJP’s state government and visit the “land of Mahaprabhu,” referencing Lord Jagannath’s sacred legacy.

In Bhubaneswar, the Prime Minister launched 105 infrastructure initiatives valued at ₹18,600 crore, spanning drinking water, irrigation, transport, healthcare, and bridges. He also introduced the Odisha Vision Document, laying out the state’s strategic development agenda.
