The only lizard in the world that lives in the ocean!

Deep in the Galápagos Islands lives a creature unlike any other-a lizard that isn’t afraid of water. Known as the marine iguana (Amblyrhynchus cristatus), it’s the only lizard on the planet that spends part of its life underwater.

While most lizards are strictly land-dwellers, the marine iguana has evolved to dive into the chilly Pacific Ocean to forage for seaweed, its primary diet. This unique adaptation makes it a biological wonder-and a living example of evolution in action.

You’ll only find this species in the Galápagos Islands, where it can be seen sunbathing on volcanic rocks or swimming gracefully through ocean currents-almost like a mini Godzilla on a snorkeling mission.

Its flattened tail, sharp claws, and salt-sneezing nose are just a few of the many features that help it survive both on land and in the sea.

Often overlooked, this reptile stands as a symbol of natural resilience and uniqueness-a must-see for wildlife lovers and evolutionary biologists alike.
