In Navi Mumbai on the overnight hours of July 26–27, 2025, a woman driving an Audi accidentally plunged into a water-filled ditch near Dhruvtara Jetty, Belapur. She had been following Google Maps directions, which routed her under the Belapur Bay Bridge instead of over it, guiding her inadvertently onto a dead-end service road at the creek’s edge.
The woman—reported to be a salon owner living in Kharghar—was traveling from Belapur to Ulwe, and was the only occupant of the vehicle. Around 1 a.m., she drove straight into the creek in poor visibility. Fortunately, coastal police and marine security personnel intervened swiftly, rescuing her within minutes. She emerged uninjured and did not require hospitalization. A crane was later deployed to retrieve the submerged car
Officers noted that the route error stemmed from the navigation app directing her along a service road beneath the bridge instead of the intended bridge itself. In response, authorities plan to install clear warning signs, barricades, and navigation markers approximately 100 m before the jetty area to prevent similar incidents.
